Anna Seeing
Anna seeing that
Her father does not believe her.
He is worried about his reputation.
Her mother too.
Anna seeing that
Bringing up charges
trying to get restraining order
don’t work when the criminal could buy out Judge.
Judge turn he face and say
the two of them should work it out.
work it out?
Work. It. Out??
So they all saying what?
That she deserve it?
She look for it?
Is Karma?
No. It can’t be true.
When he kisses her
When he says he’s sorry
or
“it’s not so bad, I would never really hurt you, dear”
She no longer believes him.
But
Anna seeing a next hospital visit for sure
She knows that now.
Anna seeing
dark days and darker nights,
a rain that will never stop
and outside she in the mud
Alone
Anna seeing a life of pretending
fake friendships and hiding the children
those that she manage to have
Anna seeing the end too soon
Anna wanted to see the world but Anna
Anna seeing she coffin.

Seeing Anna
Her mother says:
”Batie, he is brahmin, he father is pundit
there is nothing you could do about it.”
Her father says:
“Well is you who vex the boy. Don’t make a scene. He never even touch you.
Is he self who tell me tell me the whole story.”
And He.
He says, when he comes to pick her up and her parents are waiting to see:
“Oh darling, oh hunny
how are you today? Work was tough this week? I know, me too, love, me too.”
And when she is taken
Quiet, worried
Her dead-weight heart pulling her eyes down
No one seeing
How she flinches when he touches her
How she will not look at him, at you, at anything alive
No one acknowledges that something is wrong
in that silence
right there.
Alone.Together. Alone
is tense disjointed fore-
-shadowing the trigger
that moment when
Alone.
He says:
purple-black-blue-horror-fun-anger-fun-rage-rage-rage-horror-fun-you-deserve-this-don’t-run-don’t
-run-if-you-leave-if-you-talk-you-will-die-you-are-mine-you-are-mine -
screams in silence at his lovelovelove
lets
his curled, tightened, cruel, cruel
hardened points and anything he can grab
until
he, the brahmin, the teacher
has taught
and she the simpleton, the property
has learnt
I love SG!
Me and you, what’s going on? All we seem to know is how to show the feelings that are wrong.
Half-Moon
Shines upon a restricted heart in a restricted land
halves of everything now -
half-a-plan
half-locked
half-
The half
of her face that is not hidden is tear-streaked
behind the facade can only be void
the safe places are not so
(and it is all broken-down heaps of rusted images)
everything is brought to light - discovered
all the guns are half-cocked and
this poem is rushed because there is not even half the time needed
under a half-moon battery fails and energy
nervous
tear-streaked
is drawn from her face that shines and distracts
from thinly veiled chaos
that is this land of lies and false dreams
You can clutch the past so tightly to your chest that it leaves your arms too full to embrace the present.
