Her mother says:

He says, when he comes to pick her up and her parents are waiting to see:

And when she is taken

Quiet, worried 

Her dead-weight heart pulling her eyes down

No one seeing

How she flinches when he touches her

How she will not look at him, at you, at anything alive

No one acknowledges that something is wrong

in that silence

right there.

is tense disjointed fore-

-shadowing the trigger

that moment when

He says:

       he, the brahmin, the teacher

has taught

and she the simpleton, the property

has learnt

Half-Moon

Shines upon a restricted heart in a restricted land

halves of everything now - 

half-a-plan

half-locked

The half

of her face that is not hidden is tear-streaked

behind the facade can only be void

the safe places are not so

(and it is all broken-down heaps of rusted images)

everything is brought to light - discovered

all the guns are half-cocked and 

this poem is rushed because there is not even half the time needed 

under a half-moon battery fails and energy

nervous

tear-streaked

is drawn from her face that shines and distracts

from thinly veiled chaos

that is this land of lies and false dreams
